Sunday, August 19th
Today was a travel day. From Krakow we traveled through Czech Republic and Slovakia to Hungary. Four countries in one day. Bloomie was doing just fine and safely brought us to destination. We went to a camping in Hungary. It turned out to be surprisingly busy what was due to a national holiday the next day. This was the second time as in Poland we also arrived during a long weekend. The stores were therefore not open and the amount of coffee we still had was worryingly low. Nothing we could now lets see tomorrow.
Monday, August 20
Bloomie earned her resting day after yesterdays multi country pass. Better for all to take it slow today. Next to the campsite was a water park with various swimming pools, slides, etc.. Enough fun (for Anna) for a day. But first: find coffee! Ewout and Anna took the bike and went exploring. Eventually they ended up in the long queue at the small(est) neighborhood supermarket where the whole village that forgot to buy something prior seemed to be in line. But, with bread and coffee, we started this day well. The rest of the day consisted of swimming and swimming and swimming again. The evening consisted of clearing and packing, tomorrow we are on the road again.
Tuesday, August 21st
The plan at first was to go to the Croatian Mediterranean coast and to setup at the sea shore for a while. The evening before we searched for a fit camping but the prices and the magnitude of these places didn’t make us enthusiastic. We decided to drive in that direction and on the road to search further. After the weeks of travel and many impressions and wonderful adventures we were ready for some rest and peace. The idea of coming back to mass crowds on a party camping wasn’t an appealing though and weighed in more then the sea we love to be at. As if it should have been so, the Farmica Seoski site came just before the Croatian border. A beautiful farm that had a number of refurbished old-style holiday homes for rent. They still had a 2 bedroom house available and on arrival we were warmly welcomed by the owner. It immediately felt good here.
Wednesday 22 and Thursday 23 August
The day started with a delicious breakfast prepared by the hostess and host. What a luxury. After breakfast, Anna went on an adventure. There were dogs, cats, chickens, very small chicks, rabbits and a very nice horse.
There was also a monopoly game, something Anna was very good at (albeit with here own changing rule set…) Then we went to visit the advertised swimming pool. The swimming pool was located in the middle of an open spot in the forest. We where the only ones that would use it: A little paradise. Meanwhile Anna practiced her letters, we read a book together and decided to do the same the next day. We came to rest and got to know Croatia from a different angle than from the seas we were more used to. What a beautiful country!
Friday, August 24
Today it was time for some grocery shopping again. A Renaissance festival was starting in the village near so regretfully for us the Farmica was fully booked from the day after tomorrow on (and we could not stay longer). Once in the village, 10am turned out to be a little early for the festival and it was’t in full swing yet. We put Bloomie in a wash-box for the first time since we left and gave her some deserved TLC. Afterwards we had a nice walk around the area before we enjoyed the rest of the afternoon at the pool again.
Saturday, August 25
For the night and morning heavy rains where predicted. As a precaution, we drove Bloomie up from our cottage in the small valley on the farm estate to higher grounds so taking of in the morning should not be a problem. There was rain that night and morning but not more than a normal shower. Anyways better safe then sorry. We enjoyed our last complementary delicious breakfast and headed of in the direction of Slovenia, the 15th country already of our trip. We can look back on a few beautiful days and hope to return once again to this for us special place in Croatia.
