camplet concorde

We are going to travel for multiple months and we are bringing a… trailer tent ?!

The preparations for our trip are under way. We have now purchased a nice VW bus and installed a hitch. We initially wanted to bring a trailer for bicycles and a tent and the rest of camper gear. We would choose where we would sleep: in the tent or somewhere in a hiker’s cabin or AirBnB.

The plan is actually still the same at the moment….

There is a trailer and there is a tent in that trailer, however… the trailer is a trailer tent. Yes really. It still surprise ourselves when we say it outloud. But we did buy a trailer tent. That type that folds out into this big tent. We got the idea because we saw a tent trailer with a school friend of Anna. After some evenings googling we came on a model trailer tent which is very lightweight and therefore good to pull by Bullie.

A Camplet Concorde.

The tent in the two-tone colors of Bullie. Let be it a bit faded and outdated. But it’s complete and so we believe to enjoy it. The advantage of a tent trailer compared to a tent is the bed(s). In the tent trailer there are mattresses, you sleep of the ground saves and no inflation needed. When we arrive at destination of the day we open the box, unfold the tent and ready!

But why not a camper?

Well, opinions are divided on practicality. The dream is still to have a big (old-timer) camper van with a little old-timer on the hitch. Preferably a 2CV or Dyane as we once had. Only the budget for this combo was insufficient. In addition, we have experience from Switzerland of owning a camper. Travelling with it was less satisfying than we thought. It was great, but partly not so practical. Hence now a separate ‘smaller’ bus that we can drive everywhere while leaving the tent behind.

Welcome to the club?

We now belong to the club of folding car owners. We are not yet sure how we should feel about that… Will discover when under way. In the meantime, we are making the Camplet Concorde part of our plan. We are going to give it a nice matching color scheme as the bus and do some cleaning on it.

So… We would love to hear what you think of our purchase! Bonkers or are you ‘all-in’ on the tent trailer.
