Less than 4 weeks ago we returned on Dutch soil. After a 24 hour journey from Melbourne to Amsterdam we arrived pretty worn-out. We were tired and did not know whether we should be happy or sad. At the baggage claim we put or summer coats over our vests and any other layer we had on. For a light summer feeling, we kept our slippers on. We collected the baggage and walked out into the cold wind and wetness.
At least we were awake immediately
A taxi brought us to The Hague, to our to be home, rented online and viewed via pictures. Once in The Hague we were able to pick up the key of our new temporary home from an acquaintance in the neighborhood. We unlocked the door and stepped into our new home. Cold and empty but wind and rain free!
We wait patiently for the movers who let us wait a bit longer than we wanted. But they finally showed and with our help we got the truck emptied begin evening. Shut the door, keep the cold out and start digging in the boxed for the bedding. Somewhere between the stack of boxes one should hold them. Fortunately, the box was quickly found, the beds made and we tried to get some shut eye.
A few weeks later
Most boxes have now been unpacked. Ewout suits are ready again to tidy him up. There have already been several talks with possible employers. We have not yet found an end goal, but we have more direction. Where will we be in a year? No idea. For now we keep it to the Netherlands for Anna. She is totally happy at school and with all her rediscovered toys.
We look back on a beautiful and valuable adventure
It made it shorter than we initially thought it would be, but it was more intense than expected. We enjoyed it, we laughed and cried together, were angry with each other and made up for it again. Have learned, discovered, recognized and much more.
It’s over for now… however we are not finished yet
Are we back at square one? We are at the same point as we were a year ago. But still, we are now so much further and wiser. For us (Ewout and Susan) the Netherlands still does not feel like the place where we want to be now for a long time. However perhaps we will make concessions here, but maybe not. We are going to take the time in the coming months to find our way. In the meantime, we keep life stable and simple for Anna. Makes our lives easier to 😊.
And Bloomie?
The day after arrival in the Netherlands we picked up Bloomie from the barn it was stored. What a great site! Meanwhile Bloomie got some winter shoes and some extra protection against the salt avoiding rust. Bloomie is going strong and is part of our daily life again.
Liefs, Arina
